I had the pleasure of seeing, listening and talking to Darryl Williams at Jazz Alley here in Seattle last night... He was a very generous, friendly and engaging musician who creates a deep pocket and groove with his playing... I was FLOORED by the sound of the SB-5000. Articulate, thick, rich, smooth, ballsy, are all descriptions that come to mind when recalling the sound of that beast!!! And not mention how stunning the bass looked as well.... Here is a world class player, who has played and owned just about every high end instrument out there, and he said Carvin trumped them all... I certainly was glad that i ordered my SB-5000 last week!! Now the wait begins.

darryl's SB-5000 had an ash body w/quilted maple top, tinted TEAL burst. the neck was maple w/ maple board. Chrome hardware. Cream color J99a's. That just about covers it. Cool

Darryl is a solo artist, but is a noted side man as well on the Smooth Jazz scene... Right now he is touring with saxophonist Euge Groove. He is a very busy sideman... He has a great pocket and groove... The Carvin he is playing just sounds so amazing... After my fretless arrives, I am going to get a fretted SB-5000 for sure...

The finish is actually dragon burst. He has a tagged pic of the bass in the pic section of his myspace profile.

Thank you on the STR!

My SB5000 will be platinum gold metallic, matching headstock, white logo, MOP blocks, pearloid guard (ebony board). It was originally spec'd evergreen but apparently they are not doing evergreen at the moment.
