Hi all-
I am new here, this is my first post. I am planning on buying a Carvin custom soon, and figure this is a great place to help me choose. I know about Carvins reputation for excellent quality and value, so I am here to learn as much as possible before deciding on my custom order. Right now I am leaning toward a TL60 with a fixed bridge and HSH configuration. Anyway, I have learned alot just browsing this forum and hope to learn alot more!

Welcome!
You'll be surprised by how nice everyone around here is. Got any ideas for a possible build? We have a great bunch of Photoshop experts around here that'll cook something up for you mighty fast. We're a vocal bunch, but in a nice way (most of the time ) |

Thanks LG. I was thinking a dark natural top, maybe walnut or koa, and an ebony fretboard with a neck that matches the body? I may go for the LP style (CT6??) though, they are awesome as well. I guess if anyone wants to photoshop, Maybe show me some options with a HSS configuration, fixed bridge, abalone inlays. As far as timeframe, if I get a decent xmas bonus, around then. If not, probably february when i get my tax refund (should be enough to cover it all). Thnks for your help. |

Welcome aboard baldy. There's tons of people on here that are always willing to help. If you're wanting an HSH configuration, you're looking at a DC model. I don't think that they offer that in the TL and certainly not in the CT or the CS (the LP looking model). I have not played a TL (in fact it's what I'm looking at for my next Carvin), but I do have a CT and a CS. The CS can get pretty heavy, but it's not that bad. It does have a deep growly voice to it - great for classic rock. The CT is probably the most comfortable guitar I have ever played. I also have a bolt kit that I just finished up which is an absolute joy to play also. Basically, I don't think you can go wrong with any model that you choose. Just don't drive yourself nuts trying to figure out the many ways you can build the guitar. |

I have a TL60 with a fixed bridge, SSH with a 5 way switch. It's my favorite guitar in the world.
Welcome to the forum. |

Oh, you will, anyway; we all happily suffer through the creative process. The TL60 is a great feeling guitar, IMHO. Good luck and keep us in the loop. |

Welcome to the forum. There are so many models and so many variations with each model, it can be overwhelming. Here is some advice you didn't ask for and may not even need, but I'll say it anyway --
Start by focusing on structural things--do you want 22 frets or 24? 25" scale or 25.5" Neck through, bolt on, or set? If you have strong preferences in these areas, it will simplify the decision to a degree.
I love teles, and I was at first really interested in the TL60. But I don't like 24 fret guitars, because I don't like the tone of the neck pickup in a 24 fret guitar. So that narrowed my choices quite a bit.
Remember that there are things you can do which are not listed in the on-line builder program...be sure to check the guitar gallery, and ask alot of questions. There is also the option of going with an in-stock model. Good luck! |
