Ok, so I've heard a lot of good things about the 8X10 stack. It looks pretty cheap(for the product you're getting) and I wouldn't mind buying one. Problem is...those dang Carvin stores are only in California. Ok...wtf? And it doesn't seem like anybody carries their products.

Is that true? Do some stores carry them? Cause some people may find this stack incredible but there's a chance I just "won't like it" for whatever reason and it's hard to rationalize spending 1,200 on an amp I've never played before and then finding out that I'm in for a disappointment. (I live in northeast Indiana).

The only other option I have is to get one of those 810 Acoustic stacks GC has...yeah I know, but money IS an object in this case. I suppose I could just start with a half stack or something, but my rationale is that it'll just be cheaper in the long run if I just shell out the money for 810 and not have to spend more money later to upgrade while getting little of what I paid back for selling said half stack.

The main reason Carvin sells their products at such good prices is they eliminate the 'middle man' and sell direct from their factory.

If this means anything to you at all I've played through Fender, Marshall, Traynor, Ampeg, Crate, etc .. over my 34 yrs being a musician.

I currently own a Carvin self powered p.a , 2 Carvin basses, 4 Carvin guitars , a Carvin bass rig that consists of their BX1200 head and Neo 10.2 and 10.4 cabs , 2 Carvin Legacy combos with matching extension cabs .

I'm not listing this gear as a way of bragging but to make the point that in my years of playing you simply cant find products that deliver the goods , both in sound quality and build quality that Carvin produces.

Where I live I pay 3 times the shipping costs that someone like yourself in the U.S would pay but not once has this thwarted me on any given Carvin purchase. I haven't been let down yet and their customer service is probably the best in the business.

Carvin gets good reviews in magazines and a lot more players are using their gear which is a great testament to their reputation for putting out a great product.

I'm not alone in what I've stated here but the decision is ultimately yours and I understand your reservations in making a decision based solely on your not being able to try a cab at a local store .
But sometimes you have to take a risk and the only thing you would lose in your case is the return shipping cost .. but I highly doubt you'd send it back after trying it Very Happy

Its a nice cab, I played one when I visited San Diego last year. Very punchy and tight sounding, much better than an Ampeg, IMO. Doesn't go super low, but neither do most 8x10 cabs...

Cool! I'm actually more of a "high-mids and treble" kinda guy.

Yeah, from all the amps I've been trying out it looks like the Carvin is winning (just on shear power and value alone, since I can't play one) so it's good to hear more good stuff about them.

I won't even play an ampeg cause it's outta my price range...

I tried a G&K full stack...pretty nice volume, but...I dunno...I just didn't like it as much as I wanted to. It was the cheaper grade GKs too, so that probably had something to do with it. The tone was fine, but it kinda farted at about "5" on the volume.

I tried a Hartke 4X10, just the opposite! Best tone I've ever heard, but for EACH speaker putting out 250W and the head being a 350W it was pretty weak. I mean seriously...I didn't even THINK that I would need earplugs till I maxed the thing out (that's pretty sad, as I bring earplugs to every practice and have all my hearing).

The acoustic was good...definitely loud, but I keep hearing from various people that it may be (in fact) low-grade crap pushed out by GC. I also didn't think highly of the tone.

Those are the only brands of amps in my area that are within my range...I could have played some Mesas too, but DANG those are expensive!

So I guess I DID have other options besides the Acoustic...but it seems that the Carvin is still the "winner". When I get one, I'll be sure to comment on how I like it.
