Order Tracking for phone orders or orders placed at a Carvin store. Placed and order for an SH575 on 10/24 and when I got home I tried to track the order at Carvin.com using my customer account and no new orders came up. Waited a few days and still no new orders came up. An email to Carvin informed me that orders placed by phone or at a Carvin store will not show up on my customer account, and that they only send a post card in a couple weeks with a estimated completion date. I'm not talking about following the production steps of the guitar but just some details like order received, order in production or order shipped types of things. Not obsessing about it but seeing this info. at the website would be reassuring that my guitar was indeed being built and moving along in the whole process. |

It'd also be useful to be able to track international orders too.
Cheers.

While not a bad idea, the problem is that most customers who order at a store or even over the phone don't have a MyAccount (if they did, they'd probably be ordering online). So, there's no easy way of determining who should and who should not have tracking/order processing data uploade to the site. If you didn't have an account, but wanted us to create one for you, that creates security issues, because you would have to tell someone on the phone what you wanted as a password - and if you gave a salesperson the same password as you use for your PayPal account - well, you see where that's going.
Nonetheless, after the dust settles from everything else, I'll kick it around some more and see if there's a practical solution. |

How about allowing someone to create their own account on the Carvin website and then allow them to add their order number to that newly created account? This would give you a list of orders that should be uploaded to the site (although the easiest way would be to integrate the front end and back end so that you don't have to transfer data).
Cheers.

I have always wondered about this. I think that if you are a repeat customer and your name is in Carvin's system then when, or if, you place an order the system should recognize whether or not you have a "My Account" and put your information there, right? I'm no tech wiz but I know that once you place any kind of order you are in Carvin's data base. |

The database on the website and the internal database at the factory are two totally dissimilar systems that don't talk to each other. The reasons why are complicated - but they just don't. When you see something like the Stock Status indicators, or when pricing changes, that's all done semi-manually. Although we're experiment with some cron to make the systems talk to each other for specific purposes, the ultimate issue boils down to the password thing I mentioned above.
And regardless, we send tracking numbers via email when an order ships (no matter how the order was placed). So, the data is being disseminated.
And with all that said, I'm already kicking around some new ideas. |

The tracking section does need to be updated and give more thorough updates on ones order.
Basically it just gives two status's right now.
"Processing" and "Recieved". That's it.
No estimated shipping date.
No, tracking number when an item has shipped. (Yes, I know, the email. But, people do have a tendency to empty their mail boxes. Or it sometimes goes to junk mail, and you forget to look in there.)
It would be nice if it gave a little more information on the status of ones order. |

That's something we're actually working on now. Soon, it'll have tracking numbers, backorder status, etc. Just squeezing it in between 27 other projects. |
